Collagen and creatine can be taken together; neither interferes with the other, and they are not taken at the same time. Base Work is 5 g of creatine daily, timing largely irrelevant. Under Load goes in 30 to 60 minutes before loading. Its evidence — Am J Clin Nutr, 2017 — is eight men and a blood marker, not a tendon.
The question is usually asked as an interaction question, and the interaction answer is the dull one: nothing known competes in either direction.
The useful answer is a timing answer, and underneath it is a second answer nobody volunteers — that the evidence behind these two ingredients is not remotely the same size, and treating them as a matched pair would be the misleading part.
Do collagen and creatine interfere with each other?
No interference is known in either direction. They are handled as different things: creatine as a small molecule that fills muscle creatine stores across repeated daily doses and stays there, collagen as short protein fragments that appear in the blood and are cleared again within hours. Neither competes with the other for absorption, and taking both is a scheduling question rather than a safety one.
They also do not need each other. Neither is a cofactor for the other, and no trial has tested the pair. Anyone describing the two as synergistic is describing a hypothesis, not a result, and this page is not going to be the one that repeats it.
When should each one be taken?
Creatine, at any time, on every day — the store fills across repeated daily doses rather than in any one of them, so the hour it is topped up in is largely irrelevant. Collagen, 30 to 60 minutes before you train, on training days only, with 50 to 100 mg of vitamin C. One is a daily habit with no clock on it. The other is a dose with a clock on it, and the clock is the part the category leaves out.
- Base Work — creatine monohydrate. 5 g per serving, one ingredient, net 300 g, 60 servings. Timing tag: Daily. Take it whenever you will actually remember.
- Under Load — collagen peptides. Timing tag: T–45. Three 5 g scoops, 30 to 60 minutes before the session, on training days, with vitamin C that is not in the tub.
- The declared serving on the collagen panel is not the protocol. The Supplement Facts panel is locked at 10 g — two 5 g scoops — and 35 servings. The 15 g above is a direction, not a serving, and the difference between the two is arithmetic a buyer is entitled to run.
- On a rest day there is no collagen dose. A scoop with no loading behind it has no mechanism in the literature this site cites, so it is not sold as one. Creatine still goes in.
Can they go in the same shake?
Yes, and on a training day it is the simplest way to run both. Mixing them changes nothing about either one. What it changes is when the creatine goes in, and when the creatine goes in does not matter, so the cost of the convenience is nil. The one thing not to do is move the collagen to fit the creatine, because the collagen is the half with a time attached.
That is the whole shape of the answer. One of these is a habit and the other is an appointment. Put the habit wherever it will survive a bad week; put the appointment 30 to 60 minutes before you load the tissue.
What the evidence supports for each, and how far apart they are
Not equally, and the gap is wide enough that presenting the two as a matched pair would be the dishonest move. Creatine monohydrate is among the best-evidenced ingredients in sports nutrition. Collagen’s tendon evidence is early, small, and conditional on the tissue being loaded. Saying so is more useful to a buyer than calling the two a stack.
Creatine
The literature behind creatine monohydrate is deep and it is old, which is the point — and it is also as far as this page goes. That is a statement about the published record, not a claim TARE makes for its own tub: no outcome is promised for Base Work anywhere on this site. What TARE can show is a document. The creatine raw material assayed at 99.87% against a specification of more than 99.5%, by HPLC, at Ethos Analytics, signed 18 February 2026.
Read whose sample it is, though, because that is the part a badge would hide. The certificate was issued to the ingredient supplier against a sealed bag of raw material, with the serving size recorded as N/A. It certifies the powder before it became a TARE product, not the tub on a shelf. The whole document is transcribed row by row on Testing & Certification, and the trademark question it raises — what a raw-material trademark buys, and what it does not — is an article of its own.
Collagen
Shorter, and thinner, and the honest version fits in a paragraph. Shaw and colleagues, Am J Clin Nutr 2017 — 5 g against 15 g of gelatin with vitamin C, one hour before loading; 15 g roughly doubled serum PINP. n = 8 healthy males, and the endpoint was a blood marker, not a tendon. A 2026 systematic review in JFMK reports tendon cross-sectional area and stiffness rising at 15 to 30 g a day with loading — the loading is the condition, not a detail — and 30 g produced nothing beyond 15 g. More is not better.
And the negatives, which belong on this page rather than three clicks away. The 2026 JFMK systematic review grades the evidence strong — GRADE A — against an effect on muscle strength, and the 2024 Sports Medicine meta-analysis that did find an effect measured it at SMD 0.19 — trivially small, and low-certainty by its authors’ own rating. No randomised trial shows a reduced injury rate. Aussieker and van Loon reported in 2023 that 30 g after exercise produced no increase in muscle connective protein synthesis — collagen is not a muscle-building protein and TARE does not sell it as one, which is also why it is not a substitute for the protein you already eat. On skin, a 2025 review in Am J Medicine of 23 randomised trials, n = 1,474, found the independently funded ones showed no effect, and TARE makes no skin claim at all.
Put the two side by side and the asymmetry is the finding. One has a large literature behind the ingredient and a purity result on raw material. The other has a plausible mechanism, one small trial, and a review saying the training is what makes it matter. Buying both is reasonable. Buying them for the same reason is not.
If you are buying both
The two are sold as a pair — Under Load and Base Work, the pre-training dose and the daily one. The single-tub prices are printed first on that page and every pairing is priced against them, so the arithmetic is checkable before anything is in a cart. No figure from that page is repeated here, because prices belong on the page that owns them.

And the arithmetic worth running before either tub arrives, because it is the half that subtracts. At 15 g a dose, a 350 g tub of Under Load is 23 whole doses — not the 35 servings on its own panel — plus one orphan 5 g scoop that cannot make a twenty-fourth. That is 40 days at four sessions a week, and 32 at five. Base Work at 5 g a day is 60 servings from 300 g, and it runs on rest days too, so the two tubs do not empty together.
