How Many Doses Are in the Tub? 23, and the Panel Says 35

A serving count and a dose count are different numbers. Under Load’s panel declares 10 g and 35 servings. The protocol is 15 g — three 5 g scoops, a directions statement rather than a serving declaration — so a 350 g tub holds 23 whole doses, plus one orphan scoop that cannot make a 24th. A seller has no commercial reason to divide its own net weight by its own recommended dose in public. Here is that division for all three TARE products, with the working printed, and then the method generalised so it runs on any container you already own.

Two of the three answers below cost this company money and the third is a draw. That is the correct ratio for an honest piece of arithmetic, and it is the reason to trust the one that does not.

How many doses are in a 350 g tub of collagen at 15 g?

Twenty-three. 350 ÷ 15 leaves 23 whole doses and one orphan 5 g scoop that cannot make a 24th. The Supplement Facts panel on the same tub declares 35 servings, because a declared serving there is 10 g — two scoops — and the protocol dose is three. Both figures are arithmetic on the same 350 g, and they are counting different things.

The remainder is the part worth pausing on. 350 ÷ 15 is 23.33, and a third of a dose in the bottom of a tub is not a dose. A partial dose is not a dose, so the count is 23 and the last 5 g in the tub is a scoop rather than a session. Rounding it up to 24 would be the smallest available lie and it would still be one.

The orphans do add up, though, and the arithmetic is worth having if you buy more than one. Three tubs is 70 doses rather than 69: 350 × 3 = 1,050, and 1,050 ÷ 15 = 70 exactly, because three leftover 5 g scoops make one whole 15 g dose. Two tubs is still 46, since two orphans are 10 g and 10 g is not a dose. It is a small figure, it runs in the buyer’s favour, and a figure that runs in the buyer’s favour is exactly the kind a seller has no reason to print.

How do I work out how many doses are in a tub?

Five steps. Find the net quantity. Find the declared serving on the Supplement Facts panel. Find the serving you will actually take. Divide the net by your serving and keep the whole number. Then divide those doses by how many days a week you will take them, multiply by seven, and round down.

  1. Net quantity. Grams for a powder, capsule count for a capsule. It is on the front of the container, and it is the one figure in this procedure that a label is obliged to get right by weight.
  2. Declared serving, and servings per container. Top of the Supplement Facts panel. This is the unit every other figure on that panel is computed against — calories, protein, milligrams, all of it.
  3. The serving you will actually take. The directions on the container, the protocol you are following, what a coach told you. This is the step no panel asks you for, and it is the only one that makes the answer yours rather than the manufacturer’s.
  4. Net ÷ your serving, whole numbers only. Discard the remainder. Powder that cannot make a full dose is packaging rather than supply.
  5. Doses ÷ days per week × 7, rounded down. Never up. A duration rounded up is a re-order date that arrives before you expected it.

Run it before buying rather than after. It works on any container in any shop, because it uses only figures a panel is required to carry. Where your serving and the declared serving are the same number, steps four and five hand back the servings count the label already printed. Where they differ, they do not — and that gap is the answer.

Cost per dose is the same division with a price on top: divide what the container cost by the whole doses rather than by the servings count printed on it. Comparing two products on their servings counts compares two different units, which is how the cheaper container per serving turns out to be the dearer one per session.

Why does the label say 35 servings and the site say 23 doses?

Because they are two different kinds of statement. The Supplement Facts panel is a serving declaration: 10 g, two 5 g scoops, 35 servings, and it is locked. The 15 g on this site is a directions statement — three scoops, 30 to 60 minutes before training — describing how the tub is used rather than what it declares. The label states what is inside it. The site states how it is used.

That distinction is not a technicality invented to explain away an inconsistency. A serving declaration is the fixed unit a panel is built on, and every derived figure on that panel is computed against it. A directions line sits outside that arithmetic and cannot move it. It is also why no front-panel figure on this container contradicts its own panel, and why the 15 g never appears on the label at all.

Carried onto anyone else’s container, this is the most portable thing on the page. The serving size is where nearly every surprise on a panel begins, and it is the line most readers skim on the way to the ingredients. How to read a supplement label is the long version.

How many days does 23 doses last?

Twenty-three doses at four training sessions a week is 40 days. At five sessions a week it is 32 days. The working is 23 ÷ 4 × 7 = 40.25 and 23 ÷ 5 × 7 = 32.2, written down as 40 and 32. There is no rest-day dose in this protocol, so a training week is the unit rather than a calendar week.

An earlier draft of this arithmetic on this site carried about 41 days and about 33. Both were wrong, and both were wrong in TARE’s favour, which is why the working is printed here rather than only the result. A duration is never rounded up on this site. The half-day a rounding hides is the half-day the tub runs out in.

How many servings are in a 300 g tub of creatine?

Sixty. Base Work is 300 g of creatine monohydrate with a declared serving of 5 g and 60 servings per container — and the daily dose is also 5 g. Because the declared serving and the dose taken are the same figure, the servings count is the dose count, and 60 servings is 60 days of daily use.

That agreement is not a virtue of the product. It is a coincidence of two numbers matching, and it is worth naming because it is the case that teaches the method: a servings count is only a dose count when your serving equals the declared one, and nothing on a panel prompts anyone to check whether it does.

Five grams is not an arbitrary figure either. The sports-nutrition position stand this protocol follows — Kreider and colleagues, Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition 2017;14:18 — gives roughly 0.3 g per kilogram a day for five to seven days to load, and 3 to 5 g a day thereafter. Five grams sits at the top of that maintenance range and is the dose used in most of the trials. That is the honest reason for it, rather than more being better.

How long does a 90-capsule container of magnesium last?

Thirty. Night Work is 90 capsules and a serving is three capsules, so the container is 30 servings and 30 days of daily use. The capsule count on the front is three times the dose count, and the front of a container is the figure people remember.

Three capsules is not a packaging decision. A serving supplies 275 mg of elemental magnesium from 2,500 mg of magnesium glycinate, and those two figures are the same magnesium counted two ways: the compound weighs 2,500 mg and the magnesium inside it weighs 275 mg. A Supplement Facts panel is required to declare the elemental figure rather than the weight of the whole compound — the NIH Office of Dietary Supplements states it in those words — which is how the front of a jar and the panel on its back can quote numbers an order of magnitude apart and both be correct.

One figure to carry against it. The tolerable upper intake level for supplemental magnesium is 350 mg a day for everyone aged nine and over, and it counts supplements and medication rather than food. Night Work’s 275 mg leaves 75 mg of headroom. Anything else you take with magnesium in it comes out of that 75 mg rather than out of somewhere spare, which is a better reason to read a panel than any argument about forms.

Where does the 15 g collagen dose come from?

One trial. Shaw, Lee-Barthel, Ross, Wang and Baar, The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition 2017;105(1):136–143, compared 5 g against 15 g of vitamin-C-enriched gelatin taken an hour before loading. The 15 g arm roughly doubled serum PINP. The sample was n = 8 healthy males over three days, and PINP is a marker measured in blood, not a tendon.

The divisor on this page is therefore worth exactly as much as the evidence under it, and the evidence under it is thin. Tendon tissue itself appears in the wider literature rather than in that trial: the newest systematic review — Buchalski and colleagues, Journal of Functional Morphology and Kinesiology 2026;11(1):130, eight randomised trials, n = 257, of whom 246 were male — found tendon cross-sectional area and stiffness increased at 15 to 30 g a day with concurrent training, and graded that evidence strong. The same review graded the evidence strong against an effect on muscle strength.

And the largest trial run at exactly this dose found nothing. Balshaw and colleagues, Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise 2023;55(11):2083–2095, gave 15 g a day to 39 men for 15 weeks of supervised lower-body resistance training and measured the patellar tendon by MRI rather than ultrasound. No between-group difference on any tendinous measure. It is larger than most of the positive trials, longer than most, used the better imaging method, and it is not flagged as industry-funded. It sits on this page because it decides how much confidence the divisor above is allowed to carry.

So the tub is being divided by a dose that is the best-supported number available and is supported thinly. Both of those are true at once, and a page giving only the first has told half of it. The full dosing argument, including the ceiling and the vitamin C, is in how much collagen for tendons.

Does a servings count tell you how long a supplement lasts?

Two of the three answers are worse than the front of the container implies, and the third is a draw. Under Load is 23 uses rather than 35 servings. Night Work is 30 doses out of a 90-capsule container. Base Work is 60 either way. A servings count has never answered the question a buyer is actually asking, which is how many training days the container covers.

The reason to publish it is not modesty. A re-order date arriving sooner than the panel implied is the ordinary way to feel misled by a company that never said anything untrue, and the arithmetic that prevents it takes ten seconds and belongs on the seller’s page rather than in the buyer’s head.
